Extremely rare figurative bowl. Probably Belau, Caroline Islands, Micronesia. Early 20th century. Material from this region is almost impossible to find, & most known reside in German Museums. For a very similar treatment of the figures, see 'Oceanic Art,' Kaeppler and Kaufmann, p.548 for a image of a Belau stand, in the British Museum collection, length 48 cm
