Four painted ceramic plaques of landscapes of the Lu Mountain, By Yang Xiuyong (b. 1939), 1975, 80 x 21 cm approx. each (4)., Yang Xiuyong worked in the Ceramic Factory, and is best known for his painted plaques of landscapes. The technique of outlining and shading mountains in this group is comparable to a painted plaque by him dated 2000, titled Spring at a Fort', clearly influenced by traditional Chinese paintings. However the composition of the 'Lu Mountain' is modern, contemporary to many revolutionised landscapes during the Mao era. The sporadic tourist figures are no longer dressed in long gowns and carrying bamboo walking sticks, as would otherwise appear in traditional landscapes. Together with the occasional trucks and buses, these details all reveal a modernised landscape in a 'New China'. For Yang's 'Spring at a Fort'
