Doris Dutch was born in London in 1926 and studied art at Southwest Essex college Technical School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London where she met her future husband, Ted Dutch. She supported herself as a commercial artist and teacher of art and craft at evening class. Doris moved to New Zealand in 1951 with her husband, but didn't start potting until 1962 and in 1964 onwards gave evening classes first and weaving and then in pottery. She exhibited with New Zealand society of potters and had a couple of two person shows with artist husband. She also took part in the World Craft Council Asian exhibition in 1970 and international concourse of ceramic art in Italy in 1970. Her work is found in museums and collections across New Zealand. Doris Dutch died in 2012.
