A hinged and lidded trunk or chest, with a lidded top and two and three drawers in the base, thus combining the features of both. They were made in England from the late 16th century to the early 19th century, mainly in oak and were often decorated with elaborate carvings. They sometimes used as a bench or seat, with a cushion or pad placed on top for comfort.
