The company was founded in 1853 by Eduard Eichler, who was a skilled potter and entrepreneur. In 1860, the company began producing fine porcelain pieces, and in 1896 it was granted the status of a "purveyor to the imperial and royal court" by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria.
