Possibly one of the earliest types of cups standing on a stem or base, coconut cups are formed from the shell of the coconut, with a silver rim, and silver stem and foot, or multiple feet. They were fashionable rarities in Western Europe in the late 15th century and throughout the 16th century. They again became fashionable in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, which is the period of those coming onto the market at the present time.
