Gavin Chilcott (1950 -) was born in Auckland and studied at the University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts from 1968 - 70. His first exhibition was at the Barry Lett Gallery in 1976 and since then he has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand and Internationally. In 1992 he was the Trustbank Canterbury/Arts Council Artist in Residence at the Christchurch Arts Centre and has been a recipient of numerous QEII grants. Chilcott lives and works in Wellington, New Zealand, and although primarily a painter, Chilcott has worked in other media such as ceramics, rugs, furniture, as well as lithography and sculpture. His work is held in the collections of many public art institutions in New Zealand and Australia.
