A Malangan figure, profusely carved and decorated with polychrome designs, inset shell eyes and some remnant hair inserts. Base in the form of a lug for display during Malangan. Provenance: Stanley & Co. Auctioneers, Sydney, August 18, 2003, Lot 225, Robert Ypres, Art of man gallery, Paddington, 1989. Acquired from an expat Australian in the mid-1960's. Comes with a certificate issued by New Guinea arts. New Ireland,Papua New Guinea, 85 cm
