A sancai-glazed pottery horse, Tang dynasty, standing four square on a rectangular base, with head raised and turned slightly to the side, the body glazed in cream, the breast, crupper and halter straps in chestnut brown hung with moulded plaques picked out in green and chestnut, the short mane, docked tail and hooves in chestnut brown, the saddle glazed in green over a dappled green and cream saddle cloth, the base unglazed, perspex stand, 48.5 cm long, 47 cm high. Provenance: Arch Angel Antiques, Hong Kong, 2003. The dating of this horse is consistent with the result of a thermoluminescense test, Oxford Authentication Ltd., no. C103w52
