A large and impressive early 19th century Chinese famille rose lidded jar, baluster form, traditional panelled decoration including multiple figures within interior and walled garden settings, the elaborate framing of florals, butterflies and exotic birds, conforming lid, the top with brass collar and hinge and locking fittings, pinned, elaborate gilt enrichments. Height 62 cm. . Provenance: By family descent, purchased by Mrs A.R. Seccombe of Auckland, August 1927 as part of the house and contents purchase of 'Newstead', East Coast Rd, Milford from J. Reid Bennie, an English gentleman who came to New Zealand at the end of World War I with his antique collection. A copy of the letter detailing this purchase is available which notes 'It is at least gratifying to know that the antiques which we have so painstakingly collected over a period of years are passing into the hands of those who can genuinely appreciate and enjoy the aesthetic in household embellishment'
