Dame Enid Lyons (1897-1981), Australian politician and the first woman to be elected to the Australian House of Representatives as well as the first woman appointed to the federal Cabinet. Prior to these achievements, she was best known as the wife of the Premier of Tasmania and later Prime Minister of Australia, Joseph Lyons. She fought for women's equity and equality. She also found time to have 12 children. Dec.1938 signed manuscript letter from The Lodge, Canberra to a correspondent (Mr D. Jeffery), a Jan.1939 typed & signed letter to the same correspondent from her home in Devonport, an undated part-letter (4 sides) from Joseph Lyons (addressing his wife, Enid, as 'Ug') on 'Prime Minister's Lodge, Canberra, F.C.T.' letterhead, and Enid Lyon's personal, signed 'Extracts from the Records of the Parliament...relating to The Death of The Right Honourable Joseph Aloysius Lyons..' (4 items).
