Very rare dance mask. Torricelli mountains, Sanduan province, New Guinea. Early 20th century, 51 cm. Wood with ochres. Little is known of the masking traditions of this region, however, almost certainly a dance mask. Only 6 of these masks have ever been recorded making this example quite rare.
