'Coast Defence' wind-up tinplate toy by Louis Marx & Co (USA), the wind-up mechanism concealed within a defence building which has a metal rod extending from the roof allowing a detachable zeppelin to circle above, in the foreground are three manned gun stations which move back and forth when the mechanism is activated. circa.1930s; toy size 22½ cm (9 inches) diameter, height 17 cm (7 inches) when dirigible is attached, (damaged) box size 23½ cm (9.5 inches) x 23 cm (9.5 inches). This is example is believed to be the rarer early version with detachable zeppelin, later 1940s models featured a detachable aeroplane.
