Alan Border's Australian Team Helmet, circa 1980, Handmade fibreglass shell with the team coloured green fabric overlaid, the Australian coat of arms affixed to the front, with a perspex protective screen, the whole unit made by Coonan & Denlay of Sydney. Match worn and when discarded (damaged), souvenired by Border's coach, Barry Knight, to demonstrate the benefit of the helmet to other cricketers he was coaching. Provenance: The Barry Knight collection [England, 29 Tests, 1961 - 69]. Having migrated to Australia in 1969, Knight was the first professional coach in Australia, starting in 1970 at an indoor facility in Sydney. He was also the first coach to use video analysis, which led to his coaching of over twenty Test players, including Allan Border, Steve and Mark Waugh, Brett and Shane Lee and Adam Gilchrist.

- Circa - A Latin term meaning 'about', often used in the antique trade to give an approximate date for the piece, usually considered to be five years on either side of the circa year. Thus, circa 1900 means the piece was made about 1900, probably between 1895 and 1905. The expression is sometimes abbreviated to c.1900.
