An impressive Jane Brenkley Maori carved box, the lid uncommonly carved and painted with possum and stylised tuatara forms on a Maori mask and carved ground, the front with central stylised mask flanked by spiral forms, conforming sides and back, all with elaborate paua inserts; the lid interior pokerworked and painted with a lakeside cottage and epithet: 'May Your Heart Be Ever Happy..., Jane Brenkley 1954', the interior with decoupage cut-outs of young women on a wallpaper ground. Hinges require attention. 51 cm x 21.5 cm x 13.5 cm.
