Francis Edmond Striezel (1860-1935), Cockatoo', circa 1900, carved wood wall plaque, impressed maker's mark, 44 x 37 cm, German born Streizel emigrated to Australia in 1886 and worked with fellow German carver Robert Prenzel in Melbourne. Works by Streizel are extremely rare. A similar pair of plaques can be found in The NGV collection (National Gallery Of Victoria). Provenance: Private collection Melbourne, previously by direct Streizel family descent.
