Two 19th century Russian silver tablewares, by Nicholai (Nikolai) Nemirov-Kolodkin Moscow 1872 - 1891 and J. A. Goldman, St Petersburg, the candlestick, decorated with floral repousse fonts, and ending on a square base, the pot with half gadrooned design, height 14 and 29 cm, weight total 684gms. (2)

  • Embossed / Repousse - Embossing, also known as repousse, is the technique of decorating metal with raised designs, by pressing or beating out the design from the reverse side of the object.It is the opposite of chasing, where the decoration is applied from the front. An embossed or repoussed object may have chasing applied to finish off the design.
  • Gadrooning - A series of lobes usually as a border. In furniture gadrooning is found as carved decoration around the edges of table tops in the Chippendale and Jacobean style furniture. Gadrooning is also found as decoration on the rims of silver and ceramics.
