Artist unknown, [Edgell, John, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England 1813 - Sugarloaf creek, Victoria, 1848], silhouette portrait of Port Phillip squatter John Edgell of mount Piper station together with another silhouette of a young woman assumed to be his daughter Clara., watercolour and ink on paper, dated in pencil lower left '24 April 1841', 26.5 x 16.5 cm, and, 18 x 14 cm, both mounted and framed individually., Assumed to have been commissioned before Edgell emigrated to the new colony at Port Phillip. Edgell acquired the 26,000 acre mount Piper pastoral run in 1842. It was located 90 kilometres north of Melbourne on land which would include the township of Broadford.
