A Luba headrest, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Luba are a Bantu speaking people located in the south central Democratic Republic of the Congo. This headrest would have been used by the owner to elevate the head and protect the hairstyle of the wearer. Headrests are more frequently owned by royalty and elite as their hair was more likely elaborately styles. Carved from wood with a dark brown patina. A concave rectangular top that is supported by a kneeling female figure holding her breasts. Height 15.5 cm, width 15.5 cm, depth 6.5 cm
