A Dogon mask, Mali. Depicting an antelope. Kanaga masks are worn at dama rituals that are performed to usher the spirits of dead from the village. This mask has a rectangular form head carved from wood. A slender long arrow shaped nose and projecting mouth. The mask has four vertical horns. The mask is coloured with black and red pigment in a dot pattern. Fibre rope ties at the back. Height 51.5 cm, width 20 cm, depth 14 cm
