Victorian Aboriginal & Tasmanian interest: a travel album, 19th century, with many photographs, sketches, seaweed samples and watercolours. Of note is a group of four albumen prints (15.5 x 21 cm) of Aboriginal subjects including canoes on what appears to be the Yarra river, circa 1886. Plus several Tasmanian views including Hobart, mount Wellington, near new Norfolk, the Hobart Regatta and others. A fascinating collection, inspection will reward. Album size 30 x 26 cm overall

  • Circa - A Latin term meaning 'about', often used in the antique trade to give an approximate date for the piece, usually considered to be five years on either side of the circa year. Thus, circa 1900 means the piece was made about 1900, probably between 1895 and 1905. The expression is sometimes abbreviated to c.1900.
