A set of three dress studs, each dress stud designed with a fly motif, gross weight approximately 5.60 grams, mounted in 18ct gold, length 1.30 cm. The fly has been used as an image and motif in jewellery dating back to Ancient Egypt, where it was used to symbolise valour. Unlike the stylised Egyptian images, White has created a more realistic version which he has used in various designs in necklaces, rings and earrings. This example in dress studs has not often been seen. As an iconic Australian insect, the fly motif is synonymous with White's work, even gracing the cover of his self-titled book., Cf. A. Quan, Tony White: Jeweller, New South Wales, Tony White, 2016, p. 101 for jewellery of similar design, and p. 100 for text.
