A Royal Geographical Society Livingstone bearers medal. This is a rare opportunity to take possession of a Royal Geographical Society David Livingstone Bearer's silver medal. With as few as ten in current circulation, of which four are housed in institutions around the world. This medal was retrospectively awarded to the African bearers who carried the body of David Livingstone to the coastal town of Bagamoyo in order to repatriate his remains to England. Engraved on one is 'Presented by the Royal Geographical Society of London 1874' on the reverse is a likeness of Livingstone. The medal is engraved on the edge 'M Guizi Faithful to the End' the medal is in good condition, with minor edge marks. Diameter: 37 mm weight 24.1 grams
