9ct gold fob suspended on a silk band which is supplemented by three gold shields and gold fittings; the front of the fob shows a soldier standing at ease with his rifle, a map of Tasmania above him; engraved verso 'Presented by Residents Smithton District to 6278 Pte. F. Grundy 2nd A.F.B. A.I.F. Duty Nobly Done 1914 - 19.' (gold weight approx. 10gms). Fred Grundy, from Smithton, Tasmania enlisted in May 1916, joining the 12th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement. They embarked from Melbourne aboard Hmat A59 Botanist in August 1916 and he returned to Australia in May 1919.
