A Chinese famille rose 'Butterfly and Melon' wall vase (Qianlong Nian Zhi mark). Wall vases, sometimes called wall pockets or sedan chair vases, were one of the Qianlong Emperor's favourite articles, and there remain to this day, some 320 examples in the Palace Museum, Beijing. The Qianlong emperor frequently wrote or ordered poetry panels, of excellent quality. The 2 small seal marks at the lower left are those of the Qianlong mark. 4-character iron red Qianlong mark to the base. Labels of L.T. Tai & Co, C.T. Loo, B & V lake collection.
