An exceptionally well-proportioned Japanese 'Ussuri' brown bear having just caught a Chum salmon in the rapids. This larch wood sculpture was fashioned by an Indigenous Ainu master carver in Yakumo, Hokkaido. Dated August 1970. Signed, height 37.2 cm, width 68.2 cm.
