Early large Wunda shield, Western Australia. Carved and engraved wood and natural pigments. Of elongated ovoid form, the front with deeply engraved broad bands divided into three sections to form a zig-zag motif, infilled alternately with red and white pigment, the reverse similarly engraved, divided into eight bands and decorated in red pigment, with raised loop handle. Approx length 95 x 17.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, Queensland.
