A superb rare large argillite pre-European toki (adze), rectangular tapering cross-section form reducing to the pole section. The pole with unusual lobed ridging. Overall pecked finish. Some chipping to the blade edge. Similar in form to toki found at Ellesmere spit, Banks Peninsula. Archaic period 14th - 16th century. 30 cm length
