A rare moa hunter serpentine Rei (divided sphere amulet), one side broken. These rare and early amulets were made in the early period of New Zealand settlement. There is no clear indication of age for these divided spheres but they were typically found with early adze forms. Dr Roger Duff has suggested that they were hybrid forms of the reel ornament associated with early material culture in New Zealand.
