A wood shield, Ramu River, Papua New Guinea, used to protect the body from incoming projectiles. Carved from a single piece of lightwood. The body of the shield is rectangular with a taper towards the base. The shield features raised relief of diamond and zig-zag patterns that have been coloured with red, black, and white natural pigments. Height 105 cm, width 46.5 cm
