After studying Western style painting in Japan, he travelled to Paris in his mid-twenties and following World War II, moved to France permanently, becoming a French citizen. His portraits of beautiful women combine elements of Japanese and Western painting, with delicate line work characteristic of traditional Japanese ink paintings.
