18ct yellow gold round seed pearl framed brooch with claw set diamond cluster top accent set with 7 x old European cut diamonds, of estimated total weight .42 carats, in between each pearl is a bezel set small rose cut diamond, with a total of 19 stones and a total estimated weight of .10 carats. Pin is hinged with hook closure. 5 cm safety chain is attached with safety pin fitting attached at end of chain. Brooch measures 3 cm by 2.5 cm. It was introduced in the 15th century and popular during the 16th and 17th centuries.
The rose cut was the most popular form of diamond cut until the discovery of the brilliant cut at the end of the 17th century, after which its use declined. - Bezel - On a clock or watch, the bezel is the metal frame into which the watch or clock glass is fitted. In clocks, the bezel may include a hinge and a flange, in effect a door to the face of the clock. In jewellery the bezel is a band of metal with a projecting lip that holds the gemstone in its setting.
