Three Indian and Sri Lankan silver repousse boxes, 800 silver, early 20th century the three silver boxes oval and shaped forms, each with hinged domed lid and repousse floral decoration, one with a frieze of lions to the sides, one with scalloped ends and Kandyan design, all engraved or embossed to the underside, unmarked. An embossed or repoussed object may have chasing applied to finish off the design.
- Frieze - An architectural term denoting the flat, shaped or convex horizontal surface of furniture, between the architrave and the cornice, usually found on a cabinet or bookcase, or on desks and tables where it may include drawers, the area between the top and the legs. In ceramics, the term refers to the banding, of usually a repeating pattern, on the rims of plates and vases.
