1956 Melbourne Olympics official car number plate #187 with 'VIC' and the Olympic Rings in colour; very fine original condition. Endorsed verso in pencil 'Billy Holt's number plate in Melbourne'. When Ej Billy Holt (1883-1972), a chief organiser of the 1948 London Games, arrived to take up a planning role with the Melbourne Games, he found an organisation locked in a bitter dispute about the site of the main stadium. No fewer than seven options were proposed including the Royal Showgrounds, Melbourne University and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). His official role was Adviser & Technical Director of the Games. Provenance: The estate of Ernest James Henry Holt.
