A Chinese flambe glazed fanghu or arrow vase, good fluorescent dark red glaze with pale blue (flames) highlighting the corners. The glaze hand trimmed at the base. Under glaze Guangxu reign mark to the base together with further incised calligraphy, height 27 cm. Note: As well as similar vases being made for the Imperial Palace it is recorded that 1474 were made for presentation to successful students in their Civil examinations.
