Shown standing holding a taiaha, wearing a kahu kiwi over a kaitaka cloak with taniko border. Hoani Tamahika Matiu (1854-1944, traditional authority, Kai Tahu Settlement Committee executive) holding a tewhatewha, wearing a large whakatipu (dress raincape) over a kaitaka taniko and rapaki kilt. Postcard images of the same sitters in various collections suggest the date of the image as c.1896-99. 20 x 14.5 cm.
