Stan McCabe match used 1936-37 Ashes cricket bat A Slazenger ?Stan McCabe' cricket bat, used by McCabe throughout the 1936-37 Ashes series, and signed by him in the ownership position, right reverse. Further signed by the England team: Allen, Robins, Wyatt, Hammond, Verity, Duckworth, Copestone, Fishlock, Hardstaff, Voce, Farnes, Ames, Leyland, Worthington, Fagg, Barnett; and by the Australians ? Bradman, McCabe, Badcock, Oldfield, Chipperfield, Rigg, O'Reilly, Gregory, Nash, Sievers, Brown, McCormick, Fingleton, Fleetwood-Smith. Stan McCabe was Bradman's vice-captain for the 1936-37 Ashes series, and used this bat throughout the series. McCabe as captain of NSW scored 83 and 46 against the MCC, then 51 and 7 in the First Test, 0 and 93 in the Second Test. Australia were now 0?2 down and needed to win three Tests in a row to retain the Ashes. In the Third Test, McCabe scored 63 and 22 as Australia won their first match in the series. In the 4th Test in Adelaide he top-scored with 88 in Australia's first innings and made 55 in the second as Australia won by 148 runs. He captained NSW v MCC just prior to the final Test and scored 9 and 93 to win that game. In the deciding Test at the MCG, McCabe scored 112, which laid the platform for the innings victory that retained the Ashes. McCabe aggregated 491 runs in five Tests at 54.55, with a century and five fifties. McCabe played 39 Tests for Australia (1930-38) scoring 2748 runs at an average of 48.21.
