An 18th century hei tiki. A classic type I form carved in kawakawa variety stone with subtle pale and dark inclusions. Facial features display wide double ringed eye recesses, a nasal bridge with clearly defined nostrils and a heart shaped mouth with tongue and teeth. Ribs carved to the torso and elbow points are clearly defined. Intact concealed stone drilled suspension hole to the back of the head. Small scarf mark evident to the left side of the head and body. Height 10 cm.
