J. W. Sadleir. An important & rare carved & signed emu egg. C. 1919. Depicts approximately 32 vignettes - with carved titles. Each within a 'Rope' border. Includes, a swan, plus other native and introduced species, a Christmas dedication, an Aboriginal, a sailor?, stockman etc. Signed, 'J.W. Sadleir, Carver', within one image. Mounted upon a turned burl under a removable glass dome. Total cm, height 20 cm, egg cm, height 13 cm. Note: an example by the same carver is also held by the W.A. Museum, as item number SH1984. (Although they spell the name 'Sadlier'). However the signature is clear on the subject piece, - (although small). The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, also has two cut down examples, possibly made as cups. (They spell the name, as here). Theirs were collected within W.A. C. 1919.
