Antarctic Expedition 1907-1909: Sterling Silver Wine Goblets Collection

British Antarctic 'Nimrod' Expedition 1907 - 1909:, a remarkable, complete set of twelve sterling silver wine goblets (7 cm high), presented on a felt board (which would have once fitted into a timber case). Each goblet (made by Stewart Dawson & Co) is engraved with a scene, animal or bird and is further engraved around the base with a legend:, 'Antarctica 1907 - 09' (a husky), 'Bay of whales 1908' (the camp-site, named by Shackleton 24 January 1908), 'Western mountains Journey' (a leopard seal), '1ST spring Journey' (the Nimrod in open waters), 'Stewart Island 1909' (one of the Shackleton Expedition ponies), '1ST hut point Journey' (a King penguin), 'Glacier tongue Journey' (the Nimrod was anchored near the tongue of the Erebus Glacier, early 1909; a heavily laden sledge), 'British East Africa 1910' (a penguin), 'First Depot Journey' (1911-14 Antarctic Expedition; sea crustaceans), 'Newfoundland 1911' (a snow-clad hut, believed to be Shackleton's hut at cape Royds)), 'Arctic 1912' (an auk)
