An 1890 Auckland Yacht Club presentation medallion by William Maud (Karangahape Rd, Auckland), the circular fern leaf wreath enclosing an engraved image of a schooner under sail with original purple ribbon and 'AYC' top bar, the medal reverse engraved 'Presented To Chas. C. Dacre Esq. by The Committee Members Of Auckland Yacht Club as a token of their Esteem 29th January. 1890' and with maker's impressed marks. Diameter of medallion 3.5 cm. Note: the engraved date is that for Auckland Regatta Day. Diameter 3.5 cm. Note: Charles Craven Dacre (c.1849-1917), was born in London and came to Auckland in the late 1860s. A talented cricketer, footballer and athlete he was a founder of the Takapuna Jockey Club and served on various road boards on the North Shore with Auckland Yacht Club using his services as committeeman, treasurer and secretary. In his obituary he is credited with 'resuscitating' the Auckland Yacht Club (formed in 1871, but in decline in the later 1880s)
