Citation London Gazette 'In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa' the Companion of the Order of the Bath (C.B.) was awarded to Griffith in 1918, but is not offered with this lot. Charles Richard Jebb Griffith (1867-1948), was commissioned from Sandhurst into the Bedfordshire Regt. In 1887. He was promoted to Captain in 1895, and served in the South African war. Griffith was Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the D.S.O. For action in 1901. He was promoted to Major in 1906, and Lieutenant Colonel in 1913. During World War I he commanded 108th Brigade (Ulster division) in France and became Colonel in 1917, later commanding the 20th Training Reserve Brigade, No. 1 machine gun Corps. Throughout his military career he was Mentioned in Despatches 7 times. He was made C.M.G. In 1915, and C.B. In 1918
