A large 1970s Roy Cowan large slab built sculpture, of tall flared narrow trough form, pale speckled grey glaze to the central area flanked by red/brown and black mottled areas, the compartmentalised interior with pierced slab supports. 111 cm x 23 cm x 61 cm. Provenance: Originally owned by Arthur Hilton of Wellington, who was a member of the N.Z. Arts Council. He came to N.Z. in the late 1930s and was a chemical engineer. He and his brother started the company, Chemicals Manufacturing Co. Ltd situated in Seaview, Lower Hutt. When he modernised the factory and established new offices etc., he had this Roy Cowan piece in a prominent place in his office. After BP Oil acquired the Company in the late 1960s he had stayed on as the Managing Director until his retirement in 1974, he then gifted this piece to our vendor his understudy/replacement
