New Zealand Medal, undated reverse (Pte Wm Keith, Taranaki Mil Settlers). Recorded by Longley and Stowers, who notes that the medal was issued on 14 May 1888, and the style of naming being correct for this period. BBM 203 medals to unit. William Keith was born in 1837 at Buchan, Aberdeen. He joined the Taranaki Military Settlers in Melbourne on 25 January 1864. He served at Hastings, White Cliffs and Mokau. In the Earl of Ranfurly's Roll of Honour (1902) Keith is shown as a veteran from the Hawke's Bay and Gisborne district. With some research and notes verifying that the naming style is correct.
