A Chinese inside painted agate 'Liaozhai' snuff bottle, attributed to Ye Zhongsan, Ye family the bottle of 19th century, painted in the Republic period, 7 cm. Provenance: Purchased at. Y.F. Yang & Company in the late 1980s and early 1990s Both sides of the bottle illustrate scenes from the collection of short stories Liaozhai Zhi Yi by Pu Songling, first published in 1679. Ye Zhongsan and his sons would often rely on this popular collection of otherworldly tales as inspiration for their snuff bottles.
