Carved Emu Egg Depicting Racehorse Eurythmic, 1922

An interesting carved emu egg, depicting Western Australian Racehorse, 'Eurythmic', dated 1922, the egg is engraved with two (8 x 6 cm) oval panels and two smaller vignettes (4 x 3 cm), the eggs front panel depicts a horse and jockey titled 'Eurhythmic'; the verso panel depicting native landscape scene with lizard and lyrebird titled, 'The Lyrebirds Retreat', the two engraved vignettes: one depicting native wildlife in tree titled 'Kolo'; the verso engraved 'With. Best Wishes from Tom to Peg, 1922', the top egg engraved with two overlapping stars. Height 12.5 cm (with metal stand). Note: Race horse Eurythmic was foaled in 1916 and was by Eudorus out of the mare Bob cherry (by. Bobadil). From 47 starts he had an incredible 30 wins, 6 seconds and 4 thirds and amassed over £36000 in prize money -a fortune at today's standards. His main wins included the 1921 Sydney cup, the 1920.
