Qi Baishi (1864 - 1957), Four Apples (1947) Ink and colour on paper, mounted and framed Signed and inscribed by the artist, with one seal of the artist 33.4 cm x 33 cm. Provenance: Victoria Private Collection, by descent from Jörn Anner. Collection of Jörn Anner, gift from Alfred Koehn for Anner's graduation from Fu Jen (or Fu Ren) University in Peking in June 1950. The frame is accompanied by Koehn's notes to Anner congratulating on the occasion, translating and transliterating the inscription of the painting. Collection of Alfred Koehn, gift from the artist Note: Alfred Koehn was a German diplomat and botanist. He spent years in China and Japan and was a well-known author of books on oriental Arts & Crafts. According to the Anner family, Koehn was a friend of Qi Baishi. The family still keeps the first edition of 'Abundance of All' by Koehn which was published in Beijing in 1948 of his collection of Chinese window flowers
